Day 1: Hanoi – Thac Ba lake (L, D)

 

Your guide and driver will meet you in Hanoi to begin your journey toward Thac Ba lake, home to the Dao and Cao Lan ethnic groups. After checking into a traditional stilt house and enjoying a local lunch, you can choose how to start your family vacation:

  • Option 1: A serene boat cruise on Thac Ba lake, stopping to visit a Dao village.
  • Option 2: A gentle 2-hour walk through the surrounding hills and hamlets. Both options are excellent things to do with kids to help them stretch their legs after the drive. Enjoy a traditional dinner and a cozy overnight stay with a local family.

 

Day 2: Thac Ba – Cultural discovery in Trung Do & Bac Ha (B, L, D)

 

After breakfast, we head deeper into the northwest Vietnam. On the road, we stop at various ethnic villages, a wonderful way to see the authentic side of the region. Arrive in Trung Do for a family lunch, followed by a visit to a Tay village. Here, you can enjoy family-friendly activities while observing the daily rhythms of the locals. We conclude the day with a gentle trek around Bac Ha to meet the Flower Hmong and Thai communities.

Day 3: Bac Ha – Can Cau market – Ta Van Chu trek (B, D)

 

The morning is dedicated to one of the region’s vibrant ethnic markets (Saturday at Can Cau or Wednesday at Sin Cheng). These markets are a sensory delight and a highlight for any family vacation, showcasing traditional trade and colorful costumes. In the afternoon, enjoy an accessible trek in the Ta Van Chu area. Meeting the Black Hmong and Red Dao tribes is among the most educational things to do with kids in the northwest Vietnam.
