Day 2: Hanoi – Tam Coc, the Terrestrial Halong Bay (B)

Departure at 8:00 am for Ninh Binh, located 100 km southeast of Hanoi. Visit the ancient temples of Hoa Lu, the former capital of Vietnam. Dating back to the 17th century, these temples are surrounded by lush green gardens, lotus-filled ponds, and delicately scented frangipani trees. From there, you will admire the renowned Bayon temple dating from the 12th and 13th centuries, as well as the Baphuon temple from the 11th century, dedicated to Brahmanism. You will then discover the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King, emblematic monuments of the Angkor temples in Cambodia.

You will then head toward the sacred Phnom Kulen mountain range, rising to an altitude of 487 meters, and reach the site after a 45-minute walk through dense tropical forest. Afterwards, discover the Banteay Srei Temple (the Citadel of Women), dedicated to Shiva, whose architecture and pink sandstone carvings display a remarkable collection of refined sculptures and bas-reliefs. Day 8: Roluos Complex – Kampong Cham (B, L)

Discover Roluos, the oldest group of temples in Angkor, known as the “Roluos Group,” located 12 km east of Siem Reap. These temples are the remains of Hariharalaya, which served as the first Khmer capital for 70 years under four successive kings.

Preah Ko is dedicated to Jayavarman II, the first king and founder of the Angkor Kingdom.
Bakong is by far the largest temple of the Roluos Group and the first “state temple,” marking the symbolic center of the capital.
The remains of Lolei consist of four weathered brick towers standing on a two-tiered platform.

Continue your journey to Kampong Kleng, a lakeside village. After lunch at a local home, board a traditional wooden boat for a cruise along the river and then across the vast Tonlé Sap Lake to discover the daily life of Khmer lake communities. Local people fish as part of their everyday life, including elderly women in their seventies and children as young as six. After lunch, drive onward to Kampong Cham. Check-in at the hotel.
